The Monastery of San Michele was built during the reign of Roger I. It is located within the Giudecca district and overlooks the homonymous square.

The church of eighteenth-century Rococo style is enriched by polychrome marble, stucco, tiled floors and friezes.

Inside the Monastery, even nowadays, the cloistered Benedictine nuns carry on with dedication some manual activities, such as embroidery and confectionery production.

The traditional sweets of this place are “i muccuneddi”, as well as savoiardi, almond sweets, cookies and royal pastry. The sweets produced here are a tangible sign of the slow and cadenced daily rhythm of the nuns, of the strong values of ancient tradition, typical of the monastery life.
