Museum del Carretto (Museum of the Ceto dei Cavallari)
In the heart of Calatafimi Segesta, inside the Convent of San Francesco, lies the Museum of the Ceto dei Cavallari: an evocative and deeply rooted cultural space that tells a centuries-old story through Sicilian carts, traditional relics, and historical objects linked to the region’s religious and popular heritage.
Inaugurated in May 2023, the museum stands today as a significant cultural hub, the result of the dedication of the “Ceto dei Cavallari” – one of the town’s historic confraternities – who have passionately revitalized and enhanced this public space.
The exhibition, unique in the province of Trapani, allows visitors to admire authentic, finely decorated Sicilian carts, as well as tools and artefacts documenting the long-standing tradition of the Ceto, which plays a central role in the centuries-old Procession of the Holy Crucifix, held since 1650.
A new cooperation agreement has recently been signed between the Municipality of Calatafimi Segesta and the Ceto dei Cavallari to promote the shared care and management of the Convent of San Francesco and the museum housed within.
This initiative strengthens the bond between community and territory, safeguarding historical memory and contributing to the cultural and tourist enhancement of Calatafimi Segesta.
