Custonaci
Borghi Dei Tesori Fest
From the heart of western Sicily comes a special invitation: on Saturday, May 3rd and Sunday, May 4th, Custonaci opens its doors for the Borghi dei Tesori Fest! A unique opportunity to explore one of Sicily’s most fascinating villages, where nature, history, art and tradition blend into an authentic experience.
🪨 LAND OF MARBLE AND MADONNAS
Custonaci is home to the famous Perlato di Sicilia, a pearly white marble cherished in the Arab world. But the town is much more than that — it’s an open-air museum, filled with hidden treasures.
🌄 CAVES INHABITED UNTIL 1958
Begin your journey in the Scurati Caves, prehistoric splits in the rock inhabited until the mid-20th century. Don’t miss the Mangiapane Cave, where a living museum of ancient crafts and a farm school await. The famous living Nativity scene, once held here, may soon be back!
⛪ THE MIRACULOUS SANCTUARY
In the heart of Custonaci stands the Sanctuary of the Madonna, home to a baroque-framed painting believed to be miraculous. According to legend, it saved a French crew from a storm and led them safely to the Cornino bay.
🔭 ANCIENT MYSTERIES AND CULTURAL HERITAGE
Visit the enigmatic Custonhenge, a prehistoric solar cult site, and the Islamic granary of Visicari, revealing the island’s rich cultural past.
🍝 WORKSHOPS, FLAVORS, AND CRAFTS
This weekend, you’ll:
-
Explore an active marble quarry
-
Learn how to weave dwarf palm leaves
-
Make traditional busiate pasta by hand
