Calatafimi Segesta
Casa Del Navarca
The Segesta Archaeological Park, in collaboration with Coopculture - manager of the additional services - offers a unique experience combining archaeology, nature and discovery: a special visit to the Navarca House area, exceptionally open to the public.
This spring, a visit to the Segesta Park means immersing oneself in a lush landscape, where wild flowers, intense perfumes and vivid colours frame the extraordinary testimonies of the past. After the fire that partially affected the area in 2023, nature is slowly regaining its space, and the Park management, with a view to enhancing the environmental heritage, has launched a series of initiatives to integrate the cultural offer with the naturalistic one.
In this context, Coopculture is proposing a guided tour in the area of the House of the Navarch: an opportunity to admire at close quarters the refined mosaics and fascinating architectural details of what was once believed to be the home of the Navarch Heraclius, a famous figure mentioned by Cicero in the Verrines. The most recent archaeological investigations, however, have revealed new interpretations, further enriching the narrative of this extraordinary site.
Along the path leading to the house, a nature guide will accompany visitors to discover the botanical species that thrive in the Park, recounting anecdotes and curiosities, and revealing the links between certain plants and the myths of ancient Greece. A true journey through time and nature, in which the archaeological heritage merges with the natural heritage, offering an engaging and multi-sensory experience.
At the end of the visit, it will be possible to continue the itinerary independently on the South Acropolis, along the evocative ‘sacred way of the aediculae’.
