Festival Del Formaggio Della Valle Del Belìce 2025
Poggioreale, a small gem in the Belìce Valley, has officially been named Cheese City 2025. The prestigious title, awarded by the ONAF – National Organization of Cheese Tasters, celebrates the region’s strong dairy identity and highlights its commitment to preserving and promoting local agri-food heritage.
To mark the occasion, from May 2 to 4, 2025, the town will host the Cheese Festival of the Belìce Valley: three days dedicated to dairy excellence, gastronomic culture, and sustainable development. The main event will take place on Saturday, May 3, with the official award ceremony attended by institutional representatives, producers, and members of local cheese protection consortia.
The programme includes guided tastings, hands-on cheese workshops, expert seminars, showcooking sessions, a trekking route through the Elimi trails, and the “Trinacria d’Oro” regional competition, which will name the best Sicilian Pecorino DOP of the year.
The Cheese Festival confirms Poggioreale’s strategic role in Sicily’s dairy sector, also thanks to the Centre for Rennet, the only one of its kind on the island. The event aims to promote an authentic form of tourism, rooted in tradition, sustainability, and the excellence of the Belìce Valley.
